Search engine optimisation (SEO) - Do you need it?

There are two ways to employ your website; it can become an online catalogue that displays your products and services to customers that already know about your company or who find you by other means, such as conventional advertising or word-of-mouth. Or your website can be optimised to provide a constant flow of new potential customers from search engine results and referral websites.

In its purest form search engine optimisation is a process that reinforces the relationship between a webpage and a word or phrase that best describes the content of that page. It is no more complicated than that.

Search engine optimisation (SEO) - What it isn't

Search engine marketing (SEM) is an advertising-based campaign that promotes your website by using pay-per-click advertising in search engines, social media, blogs and related web-based media. The main difference between the two is that search engine marketing represents an ongoing expense whereas search engine optimisation, if done properly is a one-time purchase which adds long-term value to your online business. I do not generally engage in SEM except where its methodology overlaps with best-practise SEO.

Search engine optimisation services - How I can help you?

There are three layers of search engine optimisation assistance on offer:


Entry Level SEO - £300 - I'll spend some time looking through your site and checking for the basic SEO errors that are all-too-commonly left behind by website developers. I'll prepare a checklist of suggestions for you to action in-house or pass onto your web designer for implementation, together with a strategy roadmap so you can move forward with your own SEO improvements in future.

Intermediate Level SEO - £1,200 - After the initial appraisal and correction of obvious SEO errors and omissions, together we'll set up onsite analytics and begin to collect real data about how search engines and visitors relate to your website. Over the course of approximately three months I'll use this data to target the search engine optimisation of your site to maximise its current strengths and highlight areas for continued improvement. During this time I'll conduct an ethical link-building campaign to increase referral traffic and targeted relevant-niche backlinks for SEO advantage.

Professional SEO Retainer - £9,000 per annum - This puts your search engine optimisation squarely in my hands by making me a permanent member of your business management team. I will come to understand your business as it currently stands and fully integrate your search engine optimisation with the aspiration and goals of your organisation. Professional retainers are currently limited to four annual contracts running at any one time.
